Abstract: We analyze how capital account openness influence employment in this paper. In theory, we show that the effect of financial openness depends on labor market institutions. For developing countries, with a flexible labor market, greater financial openness leads to capital inflow and improves domestic employment. With a rigid labor market, greater financial openness reduces domestic employment. For high income countries, labor market institutions do not systematically alter the effect of financial openness on domestic employment. We provide empirical evidence to support the theoretical predictions.
